Library book. No purchase. Fun book. Mostly photos. Texas Rollergirls and their exploits. On and off the flat track. I barely remember this stuff from my early years in the late 50s and early 60s. It has been resurrected and it certainly looks as if the ladies are having a grand time doing it, too. Great photos of women apparently having a wonderful time competing against other women. Domestically and internationally. London Rollergirls, too. I doubt we will have anywhere near the fun reading/looking @ it as they do participating, but it is fantastic nonetheless.

Nice color reproductions of every original Peanuts story that Dell printed in various comic book titles. Good identification of artists (and writers) where known. Size is similar to original comics.

Purist are sort of warned Charles Shultz did not do the writing and art, but this rare glimpse at Dell's comic books is fantastic. This is a must buy for Peanuts fans, I just finished it and was left wanting more. Plus the reproduction is very faithful to the originals!

I love this book. It’s a laugh a minute. Written with the humor and style similar to the Charlie Brown Christmas special.

You've just made a lifelong dream FINALLY come true..I am now owning and enjoying the hard to find and very expensive original 1950's DELL PEANUTS comic books right here in the palms of my greedy little fan-boy hands!..LOL..Thank you!You know, I always saw some of the DELL PEANUTS comics as a kid but most of the copies that I came across were either incomplete, in awful conditions, smelled bad, had huge water and greasy food stains, or some were in really great condition but WAY out of my price range as a little kid. So when I saw that Kaboom Studios had this here book coming out, I jumped on it with a cat-like quickness and I am really loving it!Over 350 amazing pages of all new Charlie Brown and Snoopy comics and stories in color that had me laughing out loud and carrying around this here awesome book for like over 2 weeks now! And all of the PEANUTS characters, from this time-frame are here and keeping me on the ground laughing: Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, Patty, Violet, Schroeder, Pig-Pen,my main girl, Frieda, Sally as a little baby with her bottle, and my absolute favorite homeboy who NEVER EVER gets enough screen time, good ol' Shermy! And as others have stated, Charles M. Schulz lovingly and wisely entrusted his fantastic PEANUTS franchise to faithful and reliable art colleagues who, in my opinion, did a superb job of filling in for Charles M. Schulz.And speaking of the master himself, I am so digging all of the wonderful PEANUTS comic book covers that Schulz cranked out for this series. Funny, eye-catching and so very cool, indeed. I cannot wait for the next DELL PEANUTS ARCHIVES volume to come out! This is a massive book, it can be used in seminary to study all types of topics, from basic concepts of hermeneutics such as the definition of hermeneutics, the history of hermeneutics and the the need for it to more advanced topics such as historical context, word studies and genre analysis.Now, ¿Why am I giving it only 3 stars? the only problem with the book is that each concept has only a few examples to illustrate it. For example, when discussing the topic of inmediate context, the author only uses 2 text to illustrate the topic. On the other hand, the book "Invitation to biblical interpretation" written by Andreas J. Kostenberger has more examples per subject.So, with regards to the amount of topics this book deals with I can give it 5 stars but when it comes to the examples that are used to ilustrate those topics I only give it a 3.

I needed this book for a class. I felt the book was super wordy and way to much money. If you are looking for a good book on interpreting scripture check out Grasping God's Word. Hope this helps someone.

We have children studying at Christian colleges teaching liberal theology. We studied this textbook as a family this summer and had wonderful discussions together. It gave them a good understanding of the history of biblical interpretation, and how deviations have entered in from various places, often affected by the cultural influences of the time. It gives a good foundation that allows one to understand where the current teaching comes from. Although we did not get through the whole book, it is now a resource for us for the future.

This work is thoroughly revealing to the complexities of importance of understanding proper interpretation of Scripture. It opens the mind to developing an understanding of the history and culture of the time period.

This is a good introduction to biblical hermeutics written by three "gurus" on interpretation. A classical handbook that merits to have a place in every exegete's bookshelve.

I have read earlier works by this author, and enjoyed them all. The perspective in this book is a little different. The other Kindle volumes I read were made up of his journals. As you can imagine, that makes for an immediacy in the writing. This is his first full-length book, so it naturally takes a wider view. For example, by sprinkling in sections of mountaineering history here and there. Those sections are usually interesting, written as they are from the point of view of a non-professional climber.In a way this is his best effort, because it is longer and covers his entire trekking and climbing history, but it is a bit weaker, it seems to me because the writing seems a little more forced. For example, I became aware that he uses a lot of metaphors, and some of them seemed to fall flat for me. For example, one of the first ones 's "My pack had been about as heavy as Cliff Richard singing Van Halen numbers during a rain break at Wimbledon." Or the next one: while my stomach rumbled like a pair of toddlers sucking milkshake through a pig's intestine." Obviously they are meant to be exaggeration, a classic form of humor since Twain, but some of them fall flat in my opinion, and there may be just a few too many of them. But this was a minor distraction for me, and perhaps because I am, a writer ,myself.I heartily recommend this book, not just for its own travelogue, mountaineering story telling, but to support the author su that he can climb high and write again.

I am one of those people who for no reason whatsoever, are very much interested in polar exploration and extreme mountain climbing. Books like Shackleton's "South" are classics because of the very story itself, and the author. Most books in this group necessarily succeed because of their timelessness.Climbing books are more difficult to consider. While the topic again may inform us about the surprising quirks and depth of human nature, an incompetent author can ruin the story.Mr. Horrell sails very close to the wind with his sometimes adolescent humor, but his unrelenting goal to climb Everest honestly is a story to be shared.

Mark Horrell is a regular (English) guy who decided to become a mountaineer and graduated from being a hiker to climbing not just the famous Mount Everest but some other (in)famous and complicated peaks as well.His writing style is light and chatty and makes for an easy enjoyable read. My only critique is his excessive use of simile and metaphor which obstructs the easy flowing narrative with bizarre and frequently out-of-synch word images which are often not as funny as they could be. If you didn't grow up with anEnglush sense of humor this could be a bigger issue.That aside you'll learn more about mountaineering from this book that you will from any other non specialist source. The details are fascinating and Horrell's frank exploration of his fears and hopes make this book a page turner. Surprisingly enjoyable read. Highly recommended.

I have long been a fan of Mark's writing and this work is a culmination of his many journeys through which I have been a vicarious participant. His candor appeals to anyone that has mountain ambitions as he weaves the tale for lay climbers and seasoned veterans alike. Mark's self-effacing humor hides an unrivaled depth of historical knowledge that only a mountain geek like myself could fully appreciate. When viewing the Rongbuk, Mark notes each step on Chomolungma's flank and conveys thoughts about the potential fruition of Mallory and Irvine's efforts there. As someone who has experienced expedition life, it is evident the author can capture the essence of down time in base camp and the requisite casts of reappearing characters we feel as if are known by the end of the book.I appreciate that Horrell eschews the pretense of alpine style and unapologetically embraces commercial mountaineering as a practical means to an end. He is a new breed of mountaineer and his voice is large in the tight knit climbing community. I look forward to hearing more of it.

Great book! Once again, Mark writes in such excellent style, you really enjoy reading his books. Seven Steps takes his entire journey which I've read parts of in his other books, and puts it all together into a cogent story. You now have the "oh, now I get it" moment to his story. As an old man now, I particularly love reading through his adventures and wish I had pushed myself earlier, but I guess living through these type stories has to be enough for now--maybe a 14er or two in Colorado might suffice! One particular aspect of the 8,000 meter peaks that Mark really makes apparent, that I have not gotten as graphically in other written literature is the fact that fatigue, a twisted ankle, a slip, or simply drifting off for a "nap" can end your life AFTER YOU'VE SUCCESSFULLY SUMMITED! WOW! I also appreciate his commentary on the media reporting on Everest; his experience clearly shows it's no cake-walk, regardless of how easily one can afford it. It can just as easily take your life, regardless of your means. Excellent book, well worth the read, regardless of whether you're a climber or not!

I am strictly an armchair mountaineer, but I find Horrell a balanced writer, neither glorifying nor demonizing in his climbing stories. The effort and the pleasure both come through, and he is always deeply appreciative of the support of guides and commercial teams, including Sherpa guides on Himalayan peaks.

I enjoy Mark's writing. Never met the man but he spins a good yarn and keeps me entertained throughout the book - not just this one but all his others too. If you like to read about climbing or climb yourself, I think you'll enjoy Mark's point of view. He is not flashy and appeals to normal people like me. Give him a read.

I may update. I am at page 65 and already shaking my head. I think the author hit many valid points and shows a lot of inexperience with others. Much is a rehash of what is currently in style without any real insight. The reasons for and benefits of comments for example are glossed over with lack of experience in any sort of complex systems (like a physics system or conplex real time networking) I think if you want to pass an interview, or are working on relatively simple buisness logic ..this is good stuff. If you want to truly write great code on or lead a team...not so much. I read lots of different books and articles to add to my knowledge base. I was dissapointed. But I think others could benefit from them. At the same time there is also a lot of nonsense that you will eventually have to unlearn.

Really glad I purchased this book, I am only a couple of chapters in, but really like the information in this book. C++ is so big and complex, that it really is hard to keep it simple, yet still show us enough to make good code, real world application code. This book is delivering on that. I thought Scott Meyers would be that book, but I found those books inaccessible to me, but admittedly I am a novice. I just am self taught, but when I buy a book I do not want that book to be too big, or it means that the author cannot organize and prioritize the right material, but Scott's books are still assuming too much knowledge for my taste and background. This book on the other hand is very accessible, and covers the designing of code, which I excel at in other languages, but am struggling with in C++. I will update this comment if my opinion changes, but right now this book is awesome and delivers a lot of value to me. I have not found a similar book for C++. Understand I am not a guru, I want to get up to speed fast with good code, then later I will add all the esoteric stuff if the requirements warrant it, and I am sure in some cases it will, but hopefully this book gets me the 80%.Also I know C++ is getting better and more responsive to programmer needs to address the challenges with writing good code and writing the code fast which other more meta languages do, but since no one wants to remove features the language is a minefield for the beginner. I am hoping this book allows me to ignore the right stuff, while still acquiring the necessary skills to make great and maintainable C++ code.

Having said that, as far as I am pretty sure that a book titled “Clean VBA” would never ever appear on the market and because I wanted to refresh my C++ knowledge, I have requested a copy of the Clean C++ Book.The book actually is a really neat and easy to read. It mentions some of the clean code books of Robert C. Martin quite a lot of times, but I hope it brings something new as well (I have not read those, thus I cannot compare).In general, I liked the book, as far as it was somehow confirming some rules that I am using daily – thus I felt a bit better. E.g., after some time working with VBA, I have coined my own principle to use early binding whenever possible and I was happy to see the same rule written out as a guiding principle for working with C++ compiler – these were the three guiding principles for working with C++ compiler:- Everything that can be done at compile time should be done at compile time- Everything that can be checked at compile time should also be checked at compile time- Everything the compiler can know about a program should also be determined by the compilerThe book has 9 chapters, with lots of pictures and well-written code (this is what you expect in a book titled “Clean C++”. 🙂) The chapters fro Object Orientation and Functional Programming were of best use for me, because I saw once again the principles for good class design. One of those principles is elaborated as a Square-Rectangle Dilemma. When I have first studied OOP, I remember that one of the example for inheritance was indeed made with “Square is a rectangle and it inherits all of his properties and functions.” The book explains really well why we should not build up code like this and gives the correct way to do it – square and rectangle should be different classes, and square should not inherit a rectangle.In general, I am pretty happy with the book and I would recommend it. Taking a peek into the C++ world was really a new thing for me and I liked it!

Beautiful book! Most importantly, the theology is spot on! God chooses YOU in Baptism---not the other way around. I'm a Lutheran pastor and will be purchasing this book for all of the babies I baptize. The pictures and bright pages are stunning! What a wonderful gift from a grandparent, godparent or family member.

I have purchased several copies of this book over the years. Most recently I purchased it for my granddaughter when she was baptized. Of course, it will be a few years before she will enjoy the colorful illustrations and the joyful story about the celebration of baptism.

Awesome book for Baptism gift! Love the words and the pictures. Hopefully becomes a family keepsake, especially as we love this author.

Wasn't what I expected. A little disappointed as I wanted to give my daughter a token to remember her Baptism. It's a little too 'out there' for me.

If you are looking for a UML book that details every single aspect of the UML, then this may not be what you're looking for.This book hit me a bit by surprise. As I get more and more into OOA/D I found that learning the UML would probably be very beneficial. I decided to go ahead and pick up a UML primer in hopes of learning everything about the UML. I decided on this book. This books main focus isn't exactly on the UML (although you learn a great deal about that too). Instead this book focuses more on OOA/D theory and the unified process to software development. You learn all about how to create software in iterations rather then the common waterfall method. In a nutshell, you learn that it's not really such a good idea to plan out every aspect of your system, do all of the architecture and then implement (this is known as the waterfall method). Instead you learn about how to create software in iterations, treat each iteration as its own project and build to adapt for potential changes.Along the way of learning OOA/D, the unified process and design theory, you also learn how to create the most common UML diagrams. This includes use case, domain model, interaction, class diagrams and others. Craig Larman also touches up on other topics such as design patterns, visual thinking and much much more. There is a whole lot of ground covered in this book.While I was reading this book I was constantly reminded of Steve McConnell's writing style (in case you didn't know, Steve McConnell is the author of Code Complete 1st and 2nd edition, Rapid Development and a few other epic software titles). The writing style is very similar, which is a huge plus - as I am a big fan of Steve McConnell.I highly recommend this title to all software developers. This is one of those eye-openers that will make a few flickering light bulbs shine brightly. If you are a fan of Steve McConnell books then I am almost 100% sure you will benefit from this exceptional title. Actually, whilst reading Steve McConnell's Code Complete I remember wishing Steve would write a book focusing on OOA/D. This is "almost" that book.

Read this book as part of an analysis and design class I recently took at the University of St. Thomas, Saint Paul. I have had the previous edition of this book, but it took taking a class to actually get me to read it entirely. Enough good things have already been said about this book by others, and I don't have a different opinion here either. What I especially enjoyed when reading this book is it's description and demonstration using effective UML diagrams of simple examples and case studies - of the application of the GRASP (General Responsibility Assignment Software Patterns or Principles) and the GOF (Gang-Of-Four) patterns for doing object-oriented software design and development.

While the technical aspect and the content of this book has been well described by editorial reviews and other users, little has been mentioned with regard to the writing style and how the "OOA/D thought" has been embedded in the text. First, this book organizes many mini topics into each individual chapter so that a reader won't feel burned out before completing a topic. Secondly, the author gives good examples to illustrate the OOA/D concept and make you "think" through it rather than memorizing it. Most importantly, the author takes an iterative approach to educate the readers so that a person will build skillful knowledge on prior chapters from the book. The best thing is that if you follow the thought of the author, by the time you complete the reading you will obtain the skill without memorizing them.

A realistic book, with realistic topics. I have no idea what the reader before me was claiming. Let me start by correcting that person:1. The book is for everybody who wants to be walked through a OO process and shown how to implement consumable artifacts, then carry them foward into the next phase. I would not recommend this for absolute beginners, just beginners to OOAD.2. Learn UML from the source? The UML User Guide is not that good of a book. Fowler's UML distilled is excellent but he's not the source.3. Learn Design Patterns from GoF? This book is meant to address fundamentals. GRASP is applied before GoF. Besides this is an intro to OOAD, the GoF book is far beyond an introduction and on applies to OOD.4. The reviewer said that Craig uses patterns as a comercial tactic. Obviously this person doesn't understand what patterns are. It serves as a method of communication. When you say, "Which pattern did you use?" it allows people to coomunicate based on expert advice instead of their own opinion. Anti-Patterns aren't like Design Patterns but they are patterns. GRASP patterns are the best way I've seen to explain fundamental OO concepts.5. AS far as the comment, "in the small", this is an introduction! It walks you through a sample process, since it is an intro to OOAD, it walks you through the MOST IMPORTANT aspects, which includes use cases, conceptual modeling, and reusable design techniques.6. I really don't know what to say about the contracts. I typically don't use them, and wouldn't get to hung up about it.This review turned out to be more of a review on a previous review. Let me end that section with:Why is this expert in OOAD reading an intro book? How could somebody who needs an introduction be so critical of one? If you need to read an introduction, it means you don't know all that much, and thus how would you judge it so critically.For those of you interested. This book is the ultimate classic introduction to OOAD. I read it, then adopted a few different techniques from other authors. I prefer Alistair Cockburn's Use Case style and from what I've heard, Craig Larman likes it to.
