Great recipes, did I mentioned they taste great!!

In the book and in everything I have read it states to avoid garlic, yet a lot of the recipes call for garlic. Am very confused and feel the recipes are very contradictory.

Great recipes! Love the grocery lists

The Lupus Cookbook focuses on Anti-Inflammatory recipes for those with Lupus, while taking into consideration the challenges that a Lupus Diagnosis presents - especially Fatigue. The recipes are very easy to follow, especially the smoothies and the ones for different vegetables. I made the Roasted Cauliflower and I had never thought of cutting the Cauliflower into slices before roasting, which made it take less time and get crispy. My children even called them "Cauli-fries".Included in the book is a written description of all the different aspects of the best diet for those suffering from Lupus. It is written in a way that allows for hope, while not promising a "cure" like many other popular books do these days. It does state that Lupus can go into remission, however, especially with a good, anti-inflammatory diet. The recipes use AIP principles to achieve this diet, and would be a good start for anyone exploring the diet/disease relationship with autoimmune conditions. The author of the book states that she has suffered from autoimmune issues and the AIP diet helped her to feel better, which motivated her to write this book for those who suffer from Lupus, one of the many autoimmune conditions out there. While I do not have Lupus specifically, I suffer from other health conditions and the recipes are very helpful for those days when I am fatigued and do not feel like doing anything. I had a close friend who passed away from Lupus complications and I am very passionate about helping others with autoimmune diseases feel better using diet and nutrition therapy. I think this book is a great place to start if that's what you're looking to do.Note: I received a copy of the book for my review. No other compensation was provided. Opinions are my own.

This is more than just a collection of tasty recipes. This cookbook is an amazing resource to understanding the root causes of inflammation and how to combat it with easy-to-prepare foods. And this cookbook is for anyone who wishes to use the Anti-Inflammatory Diet (AID). So don't be dissuaded by the title; while I do not have Lupus, as a severely anemic ultramarathon runner and weight lifter, I often suffer from similar symptoms (inflammation, fatigue, etc.), and following the AID as outlined in this book has helped me tremendously. The author starts with a terrific information section outlining the goals and benefits of AID, and -- one of my favorite features -- lists out the "best" and "worst" foods for reducing inflammation. There is also a great list of pantry and cooking equipment "staples" that are useful to have on hand. The section ends with a helpful guide to eating out, outlining some easy foods to order when you go out to eat; the author keeps it real because we all go out!The recipes are easy to follow, creative (Jicama Oven Fries was especially creative), and, best of all, taste great. All of the recipes contain helpful substitution hints and tips, and are all grain free. Grain-Free Pumpkin Pancakes? Yes, please! How about a Plantain Wrap to sub for grain-heavy tortillas? They turned out perfectly. The Cantaloupe Mint Smoothie was an unexpectedly tasty combination (who knew you could make smoothies with melons?!) and the Breakfast Green Soup was yummy on cool mornings.I have already recommended this book to other athletes and will continue to use it.Note: I received a copy of the book for my review. No other compensation was provided. Opinions are my own.

I was totally engaged while reading this book as the author made me feel like I was her most important client and best friend. The Lupus Cookbook, although written for a particular health issue can be used by anyone suffering from symptoms caused by inflammation. The author nicely explains the connection between lupus, inflammation and diet. There are 125 great recipes that are very easy to prepare, especially when one may not feel like cooking due to active symptoms. The recipes not only include nutrition information but include helpful information on when they can be used for such as fatigue or a flare. The author even included an index to find recipes by symptom or dietary need. The categories of recipes are very helpful when looking for a specific recipe such as something plant based or a dressing or sauce to add flavor to foods. There are several guides to help the reader understand the effect of medications, fermented foods, a quick glance at the anti-inflammatory diet, and eating out. I highly recommend this book for anyone suffering from symptoms caused by inflammation. I am very excited about recommending this book to others as well as trying all of the recipes in the book.Note: I received a copy of the book for my review. No other compensation was provided. Opinions are my own.

No real insights as to how or why anything happened, but an AMAZINGLY fascinating read. My key takeaway here is that maybe sometimes it's better to die early from rare and aggressive cancer than to live to see the monster you've created! If crazy stories of art, corporate corruption, sneaky marketing, and terrible people are your thing, read this! But the most important thread through it all is a reminder that some people really are in this for the art, Innovation, and fun. Through the stories of terrible people, the stories of excellence and excellent people shine like bright diamonds.

The author posits himself somewhere between wannabe cool-dad and basic Wall Street bro, leaving for dry commentary that reads more like a laundry list of business deals than an anything else. I was revolted and outraged by his condescending read on the interaction between Kelly Clarkson, and her then-producer Dr. Luke, who has since been outted as a predator to women in the music industry. Randomly there are parts about his mom playing piano. There's some interesting information in here, but I found his take in general to be lacking in imagination and wonder.

A very long magazine article which seems to find deep themes in what properly are unrelated or coincidental events. For example, Dr. Martin, a Swedish producer, responsible for an extraordinary number of hits and this is apparently evidence that the "new way" of making a hit record (with a genesis in Sweden) has removed or diminished risk in the record factory and elevated a particular formula for success. But the opposite seems also true: Martin is prodigious because he is a prodigy: as Geffen and King were to Brill so perhaps is Martin to pop. The book seemed a bit long on padded detail and I felt the facts were being squeezed to fit a theme or conclusion that the author had in mind. Shorter and pacier with mot so much New Yorker-esque larger meanings and there would be a good book here. As it was - great idea though - it was a really rather boring read.

Superbly written and researched, this book is a wonderful addition to the modern music literature. The writer, for the first time ever, goes deep into the hitherto hidden and little known industry behind the music hits to reveal the often surprising and shocking truths. We all know that the industry has evolved since the 80s and 90s but these changes are little known to outsiders. There has been seismic changes in terms of the music industry structure, the balance of power and in the music production that were kept hidden from the general public and the fans.Reading this book will open your eyes wide and you'll never see or hear a hit song the same way again.

This book is a truly excellent overview of the current "hit factory" behind today's pop music. In all of this: history, movements, immediate affects, and some juicy stories, it's fantastic. What it isn't, really, is deeply insightful into what all this means for music as an art-form, nor for artists themselves. Each time an insight comes ('it's noticeable that Taylor Swifts 1989 is her first album that could have been sung by anyone') it passes without any real reflection on this. What does this mean? How does an artist speak in this factory and is it even possible? Were genuine artists ever speaking in popular music? Presumably so. What made those times so different? Was it just album sales? Etc...Also, there is really only a passing mention of what it all means for actual musicians. Of course there's the standard "this is dying" stuff - but how are people adapting? What possibilities are there? And look, are any of these guys even good musicians? Dr Luke's utterly laughable analysis of a melody: Is that really the height of what the creatives know about music? It doesn't seem so, but then there's this final thing that isn't analyses:None of these people - not the singers, not the labels, not the producers - are actually trying to make good music. They are trying to make "hot products" that will by nature flare up temporarily and then make way for the next thing. This is the opposite of an artist, isn't it?So, while really enjoying this book, I wish there had been a lot more along these lines...

This is a GREAT read that displays the phony music industry for the evil empire that it actually is!Explains why everything today sounds the same & exactly how music when from being a cultural force to being dumbed down to a sleek packaged product. Basically lip synching super models that have NO redeeming talent whatsoever! This book reveals just why no one really cares about music anymore!

One of my favorite books in the past few years. Seabrook dives deep into modern pop songwriting, which reflects a production line more than the mythic writer with a guitar and notepad. You don't have to love current pop music to love this book, but you are sure to come out of reading this with eyes open to the talents of these craftspeople. Along the way are terrific profiles of pop geniuses known (Max Martin) and relatively unknown (Deniz Pop's key role in the Swedish pop machine is made clear throughout the book). Read it.

I found the storyline incredibly interesting. The author compiles various interviews from different sources as well as personal interviews. While reading, it was sometimes difficult to follow who he was talking about since he called the same person different names. Also, there were chapters which ended leading up to a climax that you thought you'd continue into the next chapter, but then the author would switch stories only to come back 2-3 chapters later.Overall I did enjoy the book and recommend it as a read for anyone interested in the music business.

Below are key excerpts from the book that I found particularly insightful:1- "Shackleton's strategy is the antithesis of the old command-and-control models. His brand of leadership instead values flexibility, teamwork, and individual triumph. It brings back some of the gentlemanliness and decorum of the past, but without the hidden agenda of an exclusionary inner circle. It's business with a human face."2- "SHACKLETON'S V WAY OF DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP SKILLS: -Cultivate a sense of compassion and responsibility for others. You have a bigger impact on the lives of those under you than you can imagine. - Once you make a career decision, commit to sticking through the tough learning period. -Do your part to help create an upbeat environment at work. A positive and cheerful workplace is important to productivity. -Broaden your cultural and social horizons beyond your usual experiences. Learning to see things from different perspectives will give you greater flexibility in problem solving at work. -In a rapidly changing world, be willing to venture in new directions to seize new opportunities and learn new skills. -Find a way to turn setbacks and failures to your advantage. This would be a good time to step forward on your own. -Be bold in vision and careful in planning. Dare to try something new, but be meticulous enough in your proposal to give your ideas a good chance of succeeding. -Learn from past mistakes—yours and those made by others. Sometimes the best teachers are the bad bosses and the negative experiences. -Never insist on reaching a goal at any cost. It must be achieved at a reasonable expense, without undue hardship for your staff. -Don't be drawn into > public disputes with rivals. Rather, engage in respectful competition. You may need their cooperation someday."3- "SHACKLETON'S WAY OF SELECTING AND ORGANIZING A CREW. -Start with a solid core of workers you know from past jobs or who come recommended by trusted colleagues. -Your No. 2 is your most important hire. Pick one who complements your management style, shows loyalty without being a yes-man, and has a talent for working with others. -Hire those who share your vision. Someone who clashes with your personality or the corporate culture will hinder your work. -Be a creative, unconventional interviewer if you seek creative. unconventional people. Go deeper than job experience and expertise. Ask questions that reveal a candidate's personality, values, and perspective on work and life. -Surround yourself with cheerful, optimistic people. They will reward you with the loyalty and camaraderie vital for success. -Applicants hungriest for the job are apt to work hardest to keep it. -To weed out potential slackers, choose workers who show a willingness to tackle any job, and will take a turn at the unpopular tasks. -Hire those with the talents and expertise you lack. Don't feel threatened by them. They will help you stay on the cutting edge and bring distinction to your organization. -Spell out clearly to new employees the exact duties and requirements of their jobs, and how they will be compensated. Many failed work relationships start with a lack of communication. -To help your staff do top-notch work, give them the best equipment you can afford. Working with outdated, unreliable tools creates an unnecessary burden."4- "SHACKLETON'S WAY OF FORGING A UNITED AND LOYAL TEAM. -Take the time to observe before acting, especially if you are new to the scene. All changes should be aimed at improvements. Don't make changes just for the sake of leaving you mark. -Always keep the door open to your staff members, and be generous with information that affects them. Well-informed i employees are more eager and better prepared to participate. -Establish order and routine on the job so all workers know where they stand and what is expected of them. The discipline makes the staff feel they're in capable hands. -Break down traditional hierarchies and cliques by training workers to do a number of jobs, from the menial to the challenging. -Where possible, have employees work together on certain tasks. It builds trust and respect and even friendship. -Be fair and impartial in meting out compensations, workloads. and punishments. Imbalances make everyone feel uncomfortable, even the favored. -Lead by example. Chip in sometimes to help with the work you're having others do. It gives you the opportunity to set a high standard and shows your respect for the job. -Have regular gatherings to build esprit de corps. These could be informal lunches that allow workers to speak freely outside the office. Or they could be special holiday or anniversary celebrations that let employees relate to each other as people rather than only as colleagues."5- "SHACKLETON'S WAY OF DEVELOPING INDIVIDUAL TALENT. -Create a work environment comfortable enough to entice professionals to spend the greater part of their waking hours there. Allow for some personal preferences. -Be generous with programs that promote the well-being of your staff. Healthy bodies and minds are more productive. -Make sure each employee has challenging and important work. Even the lowest-ranking workers must feel they are making a valuable and appreciated contribution to the company. -Match the person to the position. Be observant of the types of people who are working for you and what jobs might best suit their personalities as well as their experience. -Give consistent feedback on performance. Most workers feel they don't get nearly enough words of praise and encouragement. -Strive for work relationships that have a human as well as professional element. No matter how large your company, get to know as many employees as possible. Memorize their interests so you can chat about something other than work. -Reward the individual as well as the group. Public acknowledgment of a job well done—a birthday or a work anniversary—will make an employee feel appreciated. -Be tolerant. Know each employee's strengths and weaknesses, and set reasonable expectations. Occasionally indulging individuals, even if you think they're being too needy, can have a powerful effect, especially in high-stress situations."6- "SHACKLETON'S WAY OF GETTING THE GROUP THROUGH A CRISIS. -When crisis strikes, immediately address your staff. Take charge of the situation, offer a plan of action, ask for support and show absolute confidence in a positive outcome. -Get rid of unnecessary middle layers of authority. Direct leadership is more efficient in emergency situations. -Plan several options in detail. Get a grasp of the possible consequences of each, always keeping your eye on the big picture. -Streamline supplies and operations so they won't slow you down. -Give your staff an occasional reality check to keep them on course. After time, people will start to treat a crisis situation as business as usual and lose their focus. -Keep your malcontents close to you. Resist your instinct to avoid them and instead try to win them over and gain their support. -Defuse tension. In high-stress situations use humor to put people at ease, and keep your staff busy. -Let go of the past. Don't waste time or energy regretting pa? mistakes or fretting over what you can't change. -Ask for advice and information from a variety of sources, but ultimately make decisions based on your own best judgment. -Let all the people involved in the crisis participate in the solution even if that means doling out some work that is less than vital. -Be patient. Sometimes the best course of action is to do nothing but watch and wait. -Give your staff plenty of time to get used to the idea of an unpopular decision by leaking early details."7- "SHACKLETON'S WAY OF FORMING GROUPS FOR THE TOUGHEST TASKS. -The best way to handle the biggest tasks is often to divide the Staff into teams. Create units that are self-sufficient, but understand they won't all be equal. It is more important that the teams are balanced when considering the big picture. -Make sure you have some cracker-jack groups that can handle the toughest challenges. They can also help others, to ensure mo team falls far behind. -Give the tedious assignments to the workhorses who don't complain. Let them know you are aware that you are giving them an outsized task and that you count on their goodwill and exceptional fortitude to get the job done. -Empower the team leaders so they have the authority to handle their own group, but keep an eye on the details. Never let yourself be surprised by problems down the road. -Don't be afraid to change your mind when you see your plan isn't working. You won't look indecisive if you show the logic of your changes. -Be self-sacrificing. Give whatever perks it is in your power to dispense. -Give a show of confidence in those acting in your stead. It's important that your support staff maintain in your absence the same level of competency you set. -Never point out the weaknesses of individuals in front of others. Often, it's better to let everyone share in a remedy aimed at a few. Chances are, even the strongest will benefit from it."8- "SHACKLETON'S WAY OF FINDING THE DETERMINATION TO MOVE FORWARD. -Go-for-broke risks become more acceptable as options narrow. Sometimes the potential rewards at the end of a daring venture justify the risk of suffering a spectacular failure. -Seek inspiration in enduring wisdom that has comforted or motivated you or others in times of crisis. It will get you through the most physically and emotionally draining times and help you to keep your perspective. -Congratulate yourself and others for a job well done. A pat on the back or a sincere handshake is an expression of personal thanks and gratitude that has never gone out of fashion. -Motivate your staff to be independent. If you have been a good leader, they will have the determination to succeed on their own. -Let your staff inspire you. At times, an overwhelming workload may force you to consider lowering your standards. Remember that the final product must represent the best efforts of the entire group. -Even in the most stressful situations, don't forget that you are part of a larger world that might benefit from your expertise. In turn, participating in community and family activities can give you skills useful on the job. -Make sure the whole job is done. Your staff may be able to call it quits after the heavy lifting is over, but you are responsible for seeing the work through to its successful completion."9- "SHACKLETON'S THOUGHTS ON LEADERSHIP. -'There are lots of good things in the world, but I'm not sure that comradeship is not the best of them all—to know that you can do something big for another chap." -"Optimism is true moral courage." -"Leadership is a fine thing, but it has its penalties. And the greatest penalty is loneliness." -'A man must shape himself to a new mark directly the old one goes to ground." -'The loyalty of your men is a sacred trust you carry. It is something which must never be betrayed, something you must live up to." -"I have often marveled at the thin fine which separates success from failure." -'You often have to hide from them not only the truth, but your feelings about the truth. You may know that the facts are dead against you, but you mustn't say so." -'If you're a leader, a fellow that other fellows look to, you've got to keep going."

This book was really good for many reasons. While this book is teaching lessons about leadership it is also telling a great story. Other books (especially the ones I've read for my class) often give advice or a lesson and then give examples, but in this book it gives readers a story to follow allowing people become more engrossed with the characters, setting, etc. It's easier to put yourself in this perspective. It also help me realize that you don't have to be in a position where you're in charge of other people to be a leader. You can be a leader just by the small decisions you make everyday and the influence/impact you leave on people. I would suggest for people to read this book.

Shackleton’s Way is not your traditional book on leadership. Instead of offering the generic advice of most works on leadership, this book provides practical and in-depth examples of how Sir Ernest Shackleton lead his crew to survive a life and death voyage in the Arctic between 1914 and 1916.Divided into 8 chapters, the book begins by chronicling Shackleton’s path to leadership, delving into his family background, upbringing, and how his early career laid the foundation for his leadership. Chapter 2 explores how Shackleton selected and vetted his crew for his voyage aboard the Endurance. Chapter 3 discusses how Shackleton created a spirit of camaraderie aboard his ship and how he was progressive in how he broke down the traditional hierarchies aboard ships to build that camaraderie. Chapter 4 shows how Shackleton drew out the best of each individual crew member and how he helped each crewman reach their potential. Chapter 5 reveals how Shackleton effectively lead in the midst of crisis and created a spirit of optimism during the worst of times. Chapter 6 examines Shackleton’s expertise at forming teams for challenging assignments and situations. Chapter 7 demonstrates Shackleton’s ability to take charge and take calculated risks to save his crew and overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Chapter 8 concludes the book with a look at Shackleton’s legacy as an explorer, as a leader, and as an inspiration to his loyal crew and modern day leaders. Each chapter weaves together the harrowing adventure and tales of Shackleton’s exploration aboard his ship the Endeavor to the Arctic, punctuating each incident with examples of his leadership style. Each chapter connects the story and uses aspects of each stage of his journey to highlight different aspects of Shackleton’s leadership style and highlight lessons that can be learned from the examples he set. At the end of each chapter is a bullet pointed list that highlights the strategies and style of Shackleton’s leadership. Following each of these lists is a modern day example of someone who was inspired by Shackleton and modelled their leadership after his example, such as Jim Lovell of the failed Apollo 13 mission. For me, the best part of this book was the repeated theme that, although Shackleton’s voyages as an Arctic explore were largely unsuccessful, his ability to inspire and lead by example continued to breed optimism into his crew and, ultimately, saved the lives of everyone on the Endurance. His optimism and preparation were boundless and allowed him to be a great leader who was a master of crisis management. Modern day leaders can learn from Shackleton’s examples of how to lead with loyalty, discipline, unselfishness, courage, optimism, and intelligence.

From Booklist

Every year, the website Edge.org—a sort of online round table where experts in various fields trade ideas—asks its contributors a specific question. The 2012 Edge question was, “What is your favorite deep, elegant, or beautiful explanation?” (A beautiful or elegant explanation is one that reduces a complex puzzle to a simple set of principles or assumptions.) The responses Brockman, founder of Edge, received range from the obvious (Darwin’s theory of natural selection; DNA’s double helix shape; the principle of inertia) to the obscure (the Higgs Mechanism, for example, or the Faurie-Raymond hypothesis). The more than 100 responses have a couple of things in common: they are clearly written, and their authors are enthusiastic, in some cases downright passionate, about selling their response as the one true answer to the Edge question. It’s an eclectic collection of contributors, too: famed theoretical physicist Freeman Dyson is here, but also actor and writer Alan Alda; noted psychologist Susan Blackmore weighs in, as does musician and producer Brian Eno. A thought-provoking collection that should appeal to both general readers and trained scientists. --David Pitt

A theory that explains a lot with a clear and simple set of ideas is much beloved by scientists and social scientists alike. In this book, about 150 renowned thinkers were asked what theory they thought explained the most with the least. Every year, Edge.org (the online face of an Algonquin Round Table-like group called “The Reality Club”) produces a question to direct toward members, and this book resulted from the 2012 question. The editor, John Brockman, had his work cut out for him given limited space and the fact that a few theories (e.g. Darwinian Evolution) would be rehashed ad nauseam without coordination. (Many authors sited Darwin, even if they weren’t discussing evolution because they knew it’d already been addressed from many angles.)The contributors are a veritable who’s who of science, and include: Matt Ridley, Richard Dawkins, Leonard Susskind, Frank Wilczek, Steven Pinker, Martin J. Rees, Max Tegmark, Freeman Dyson, V.S. Ramachandran, David Eagleman, Robert Sapolsky, Richard Thaler, Daniel Dennett, Howard Gardener, Lisa Randall, Eric R. Kandel, Alison Gopnik, Lee Smolin, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Jared Diamond, and Michael Shermer. One may note that not all of the authors are, strictly-speaking, scientists. The book even ventures into the arts and humanities, including contributors such as Alan Alda and Brian Eno. Of course, this means that the book sometimes veers away from theories that have explanatory power on the scale of natural selection or the neat offerings of physics and chemistry, but these entries often provide some intriguing food-for-thought.All of the entries are short; some are less than a page and most are less than three. Given the range of authors, the approaches and the degree of colorfulness employed in entries varies greatly. There are few graphics and no ancillary matter (notations or bibliography) except for an editor’s introduction. It’s good bathroom reading, or for any other time when one has a couple free minutes to take in an idea.I enjoyed this book, and found it thought-provoking. Often it wasn’t the expected theories (i.e. the most parsimonious) that provided the greatest revelatory insights. There were even responses that challenged the nature of the question. One won’t necessarily find all the responses present elegant theories, or that all of them even are theories, but that’s not the point. They are all ideas that have merit in some regard. One will see old standards (e.g. the 2nd law of thermodynamics) from new angles and will be exposed to ideas that might be entirely new (e.g. the Faurie-Raymond hypothesis that suggests the advantage of lefties in fighting.) I found essays on swarm intelligence and frames of reference taking my thinking in new directions.I’d recommend this book for those looking for some interesting thinking on elegant ideas.

This is my first collection of thought edited by John Brockman. I absolutely love the premise of posing the same question to a collection of smartypants and seeing what they come back with. In this case the question was...What is your favourite deep, elegant, or beautiful explanation? I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of answer and each responses' brevity. Either the academics and deep thinkers were held to a strict word count or Mr. Brockman is a ruthless editor. Regardless, each one is no more than a page or two.Without spoiling anything many acknowledged Darwin (it was natural in its selection), Einstein and Freud. But the lion share bounce around into unique nooks and crannies. Admittedly, many of the heavier science ones lost or did not interest me. But that is part of the beauty of the book, the reader can be selective and bounce around. I ended up with a bunch of brainy bon mots:"Group interaction tends to amplify people's initial inclinations.""The elegance of the brain lies in its inelegance.""Culture is a giant, asynchronous network of replication, ideas turning into expressions, which turn into other, related ideas."The responses covered metaphors, absurdity, simplicity, inexactness, intuition, trust, and ideas. The authors were both varied and similar in that they are smart, smart folks in their field. They include Sherry Turkle, Douglas Coupland, Brian Eno, Bruce Hood, Clay Shirky, and Alan Alda. It would have been great to query plumbers, hotel maids, police detectives, tailors and hairdressers. I tend to learn the most from cab drivers so that constituency would be great too.My two biggest takeaways included David Eagleman's observation that "Part of the importance of discovering elegant solutions is capitalizing on them." and Kurt Vonnegut's advice provided in Timothy Wilson's section that is quoted as "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." Now that is deep and elegant.Cheers!

This is one of the best books I've read in the last couple of years, and I've read some pretty good ones.If you're an armchair scientist like myself, imagine being invited to a dinner party. After the meal, dozens of scientists tell you how they feel on a particular issue, one after the other. At this party they tell you what scientific theory theory they like, and why. And they rarely use any deep scientific jargon, and if they do, you can pick it up from the context. You finish reading this book and thinking "Wow!" You learn that there are people light-years ahead of you in intelligence yet they can make it clear in a few pages what they're thinking about. Some people don't even need a page to express themselves. Just about every few pages you come across ideas that will blow your mind. This book comes from John Brockman, who runs a website called Edge.org. He uses the site to solicit responses to his question of the year. The answers come from people who are usually college professors and have written books, But there are other, better-known people, like Richard Dawkins, Jared Diamond, and Sherry Turkle, along with Nobel prizewinners like Frank Wilczek and Eric Kandel. The standard is uniformly excellent.Going back to that Dinner party - Brockman has done this before, and each time a book was made from it. You can read the contents of everything he's published on his web site, but I prefer reading a book. And I think you will too. Get this or one of Brockman's earlier books. I'm sure you'll have the same feelings as me and be really glad you read it.
